I bought a set of sump plug tools from Halfords a couple of years ago as have owned a few French cars over the years and the wife's has a Clio dci.

I have used Castrol Magnatec 5w30 A5/B5 Full Synth as it is only £22 odd at Costco.

This time I tried something different and used Comma X Tech 5w30 A5/B5.

Both have the same Viscosity Index so should perform fairly well.

Noted the engine sounds very slightly quieter on the Comma (the sound has a more damped quality if that makes sense).

Engines performs well though does seem a little noisier on the go, but I haven't put the undertray back on due to the cold weather so it might be due to that.

As usual used a quality Hengst filter that I got on sale at EuroCarParts a while ago.

Should really get a new washer as I have used this one six times so far, I have been rotating it, no signs of any leaks but I need to get myself organised as it isn't best practice.

Also bought a set of tools from Euro for getting the filter container lid off, much easier than trying to make do with the wrong tool.

I am considering going over to Mobil Super 3000 X1 FE 5w30 (try saying that with a drink in you!) as it is Full Synth but also has a lowish saps at 0.8 so should be a good fit for my Pathfinder that can take B1,B3,B4 or B5 oil aslong as it has lowish saps to look after the DPF.

Luckily my V50 is a relatively rare 2008 without a DPF.

Helix H7 is a semi synth hence why it has only A1/B1 specs.

That still means it can be used in the 2.0d, with the caveat that if you use the vehicle in severe service conditions you can't use it as Volvo say use full synth if you do that.

That is when the A5/B5 spec comes in, it is superior to A1/B1 and are full synth.

All A5/B5 oils will meet A1/B1.

If I was badly in need of an oil change I would run Helix H7 in A1/B1 but it wouldn't be in there for more than 5/6k.

2.0d are common without dpf I have seen more without more so on later engines excluding 2010 cars.

Still run mine on 0w-30 mind as for the 2.0d I was of the understanding it was fully synth only.

there is a little sticker on the drivers side slam panel at the front that tells you the exact spec for that car. the operation (drivers) manual that came with mine even tells you that the sticker is the one to follow. saddos like me have written this info in the manual on the page that tells you about oil.

the helix it is a fully synthetic like the magnatec (same quality level) and it is approved to the ford spec for your volvo engine.

obviously if we compare it with a a5/b5 the latter it is a hugely better oil.

i would only put a 0w/30 A5/B5 in your car

Not totally true though the 2.0D features only 5W-30 Ford Spec WSS what ever on the sticker, if you read the manual however it can take 0W-30 (A5/B5) as well neglected information on the sticker.
