What exactly is the problem?
Dependant on the fault, most alternator parts can be changed for comparatively little money.
I've just changed the brush pack and regulator on mine for £27. Took 10mins.

the problem was as follows, i noticed my elec win were opening very slow, then my windscreen wipers did the same ie slow, then my battery warning light appeared, followed by abs light, then i lost full power, must have gone into limp mode, then my car tells me to pull over , i manage to limp home. i put battery charger on, battery is fine, but ampage stays the same when car is revved, so i summise must be alternator, quoted £250 supply and fit.

Stick a multimeter on the alternator output post (not the battery) and ground and measure DC volts at idle then at 2500+ revs without and with electrical load.

Next switch to AC volts and measure the same post at idle and 2500+ rpm.

Post up your results minimum and maximum.

My early guess is bad connections or worn brushes but definitely not a whole new alternator.

Bosch NCB 1.

Blame Vida if it's wrong.

£250? Not on your nellie... assuming you do need its repalcement, (doubtful) get down the breakers or eblag. Any around that year will fit.
