Default Whats the best oil.

I was wondering what is the best oil for a V50 59 plate 2 litre diesel engine. I am about to book up a service plus mot very soon. And I was having a scroll through the forum just looking for oil recommendations.

Noticed Euro car parts have their usual bank holiday promotions on, so was thinking maybe getting the oil from them just to save a few pennies. Also any advice which brand of oil filter as well, just for good measure.

All recommendations gladly excepted...................cheers Leigh.

I use this in Mrs T's V50 2.0D which does 45k p/a:

http://www.commaoil.com/productsguide/view/6/171

- It's A5/B5
- It's 5w30 (some recommend 0w30 but in the UK it doesn't get cold enough to matter)
- It's relatively inexpensive (i.e £20 - £25 for 5L) so I tend to change it every 10k

Or you could get this but it's twice the price:

Since you asked for "best" that will be 0w/30 A5/B5

the normal oil is 5w/30 .. Those are volvo recommendations ...
The 0w/30 will keep the internals cleaner and save a bit of fuel due to lower friction .

The best oil will be what Volvo recommend, which I think is Shell Helix? However I don't subscribe to that as their recommendation is whichever oil company they're in bed with; with a previously owned Triumph motorcycle they only recommended Mobil 1, every manufacturer has a favourite oil brand. I just put an oil in that meets specs: 0w-30 or 5w-30 (5w-30 is cheaper) that is A5-B5 rated.

That is a good price. The only times I've seen cheaper for that spec of oil are when Halfords do a special offer on their own-branded oil or at Asda (lol).

I don't use comma oil but I have never had a problem with it.
Same spec but cheaper.

How about this for 14 quid? Lol. It doesn't state A5-B5 but when I was in there the other day I found a 5 litre can with the correct A5-B5 rating for the same price https://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&rc...uHk20SFhj706iA
