Well, I found the time to have another go... and still no luck!

I think, the problem may be down to the circled rubber knob in the edited picture below.

It feels like this is off the threaded (usually) peg of the unit so that it wont let the rubber clear the hole it mates with to let it drop down. Does this actually mate with anything behind there other than the part you see in the picture?

It wont pull out par enough to get it out...

Next plan? - seesnake to see what I can see behind there - what a pain in the butt....

Guys

Just found this video on youtube - the guy removed the heater panel and not just the whole facia unit.

Is this an option on all years? I have not until now seen this mentioned.

Just thinking it may help find out why mine wont come out!

Had a go again today - and still no luck.

Spent a good two hours - trying not to break anything.

I removed the centre vents to try and get my hand down the back which did infact help but not enough.

I am sure that there is part of the loom preventing the unit movement - and with fiber in the mix, just dont want to force anything.

Any advice around removing the lower panel would be very much appreciated... otherwise next weekend, its glove box out....
