CD questions
Just had to take the cd unit out of my s40 to remove a foreign object. And it got me thinking.
It’s the exact same size as a regular headunit. Would it be possible to replace the CD drive for a headunit? I have one laying around but before I look into it, I wanted to ask here. I noticed the optical lead going into the back of the drive as well as what looked like a standard ISO harness. Would I need to get/make an adaptor for this to work? Or could the iso harness supply the sound to the car? If it’s not possible just shut me down 😂 I’m just fed up of using an fm transmitter when I have a decent Sony headunit just sat on my shelf from my old car. |

Possible but a large task
The Fiber bus is a MOST bus with Volvo specific protocol on it.. Are you an electronics engineer with audio and data experience, with labs and equipment? Then you could do it. But honestly, totally impractical. Otherwise, you are looking at replacing all the audio equipment with your own. Including amplifier, phone if fitted, nav if fitted, and parking sensors if fitted. And dealing with the steering wheel controls. Much more of a job than many people think.

you didnt happen to take Any photographs of that while you were adding it?
not that adding an Aux input to my high performance system would allow me to bin the FM tx and go hardwired
