C30 replacement engine
Long story short, cylinder 3 on my C30 gave out - absolutely no compression.
One garage said there is no compression (which I told them before dropping off the car) and tapping from somewhere else in the engine. Another said that it would cost almost as much to get the head off, have a poke around, and put it back as it would be to fit a new engine (£400 for head off, poke around and back on versus ~£600 for engine fitting). Plus, with the oil consumption, I'm tempted to not risk spending the £400 or so to get it off to have a look, which would buy a replacement engine. The engine in there is a 1.8 petrol, I think code B4184S11. Am I right in saying an engine with that model code should be the replacement? Currently watching this on eBay https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2005-Volv...1/153444579285 if someone could confirm that it's the right engine! TIA, snowden |
