Got to second the people who say go for the V70 instead. Much more suitable all round, particularly as the amount of stuff transported does not necessarily diminish as the children age.

But, Volvo overall - love it. Best car I have ever driven

However before I go and look and face the annoying sales men with my wife and babies in tow I need to ask one simple question:- Is the V50 a practical family car?

Will the boot take a pram/puchchair for two babies (for those of you who this means anything we have a Phil & Teds pram for baby and toddler)

Hi, not sure if you have found that perfect FAMILY CAR, yet.
But as you stated your needs, it all comes down to what you carry with you and is it neccessary.

Like me, I too looking into the V50 only my children are now 6 years and 24mths and the pram is Bugaboo so same thing does it fit but I'l probably buy a buggy to leave in the back.
Our current car is a Discovery and this has served every purpose possible, but like a house the more space the more you find to fill it. I have a friend with 2 children 1year and 30mths and she has a mini?
I dont know how she does it but she does and drives every summer to Italy!!

And even though reluctant to say my grandad has a Ford Orion only 30k on clock immaculate but the boot is fantastic.
We cant have our cake and eat it I suppose, unless your Jeremy Clarkson....
XC90 maybe?
Let us know what you went for.

Hi,

Judging by the service costs, you'd be better of with a ford fucus.
Hate the damn things but they are basically the same.

Des. . .

Hi,
I have one 14 month old son with a bugaboo and a 2 year old black lab! We had a v40 and have only last week traded up to a v50 2.0D SE. We think both models suit our needs as a family car, however I am very dissapointed in the MPG figures for the V50. Shop around, I think the new passat might be a possible alternative!
