Default Fuel additive

Been using this for some time but it's quite expensive. lead replacement and counter ethanol. Is there something as good for less money? it's about €45 for 500ml 1ml for 1ltr fuel

Many years ago Practical Classics magazine tested a few options and I believe the millers was one of the best.

It works that is the main thing and the price is good.

I use Millers oil and Redex on my XC70. Pretty cheap too. But that is for keeping the diesel engine clean.

Thinking about it's not really that expensive.500ml does 500ltrs fuel for less than €50. Just seems a lot at the time.

As a matter of interest (because one thing I haven't done with my PV is actually drive it!) - what about B20 engines - do they need lead substitute?

Yes if hardened valve seats not fitted.Othermain thing is protection against Ethanol degradation in E10 fuel.
Do the math. If 50ml does 50 ltr gas and costs €50 and the car does 10lt/100km. how much does the additive cost per KM?

Oh per KM isn't of any interest to me - I rarely drive. In my house cars are for taking to pieces and playing with - not for driving!

I suppose I'll have to remove the head and see if it has had hardened inserts fitted - more mechanical fun on the horizon - I was trying to stop myself...

I thought you mentioned it cost 500ml for €50 and 1ml/1ltr of fuel?
Therefore if your car uses 10ltrs of fuel every 100kms you will need 10ml of additive every 100km and the bottle will run out after you have driven 5000kms
Seems a tad low, these additives are normally added a bottle a tank, which would get you ten times less mileage

It's much less expensive when you don't have shipping costs.

Russ,
This additive looks to be in one of those 'squeeze bottles' which decants 50ml into an outer chamber for tipping into the tank, it's not one of the 'empty a bottle into the tank' additives such as Redex octane booster.

I'm going to try it in my ES as one bottle does 10 tanks of fuel on the rough calculation that a 10 gallon tank is around 50 litres. I think it seems quite good value when you compare it with Castrol Valvemaster lead replacement additive that I currently use which is about half the price but doesn't contain an ethanol barrier or an octane booster which the Millers product does.
Paul.
