Default Insurance quotes

Hi there

I'm just using Compare The Market to get a price for my new XC90 tomorrow and i noticed a strange quirk.

The quote is for a brand new 2019 T8 Inscription Pro. The lowest price was £1200 (with a black box) , a bit steep i thought, but oh well, its an expensive car. The i noticed from the dealer email the actual model is T8 Inscription Pro 390.

When i changed it to the 390 model it came out at a far more palatable £690 (no black box)

So, my question is, whats the difference between these 2 variants, and why such a big difference in insurance risk?

Jim

Not sure. Thought all were 407bhp now, not 390bhp models.

That said guess it depends on your history but both quotes seem steep to me.

I moved from a company car with no NCD and thought I would be stung but pay only 300 quid.

That does make my quote pretty high.

Something fishy with that big difference in quotes for the difference in HP and the difference in price that might exist.

Another thing to consider is If the quote is for the next few days the price will be higher as you are deemed more of a risky driver as your leaving it till the last minute to get car insurance, try setting the insurance start date in 3/4 weeks time and rerun the quotes then when the price drops follow it though to the insurance website and change the start date. You might get the cheaper price. The other option is to try Volvo insurance as they won’t charge a premium on you taking it out close to pick up of the car.

Also if you take out drive away insurance you will receive an excess return voucher worth £250, it’s valid for 3 years and is not tied to any insurance company so you can increase the excess by £250 to lower the insurance quote as you won’t be out of pocket.

It’s actually only valid for 1 year. Still a great deal though.
