Default New Intercooler - what a difference

As above......just collected the XC90 from her vacation in the workshop for a shiny new intercooler (Volvo part, not a pattern!) and transmission and haldex flush and towbar.......

Wow. What a difference! The old one looked in a pretty poor state with several leaks along the bottom edge.

Performance now feels more like my BMW X5 40d with its twin turbo.....pretty nippy!

Let's hope it improves the MPG as well.

Transmission and toque convertor fluids looked pitch black, clearly never changed so very pleased that has been done......needed a full flush and refill - 10 litres of fluid later!!!

The drive quality has absolutely transformed, it was never bad but this is a world apart - long may it last.

The intercooler replacement cost the selling dealer around £500....using a Volvo replacement, not a pattern part.

Gearbox and haldex flush was £175

Towbar supply fitting and coding was £399

Plus they did some little extra FOC

And were preparing another Mk1 XC90 to be collected tomorrow..........they seem to be doing quite brisk business in them.....

Specialist Volvo / Saab indy in Swadlincote, Derbyshire. Wrathofkain bought his XC90 there recently as well. I live locally, fortunately. Really nice place to deal with, they know their stuff and keep a small stock of nice cars, only Volvos and Saabs, for sale - the XC90's don't hang around long! Hallam and Sutherns. Owner is Kev Hallam who does a lot of the work himself. Full VIDA diagnosis / coding facilities etc. They are well rated by the locals - been there for 20+ years. The dealer I bought my XC90 from actually told me about them and has sorted out payment for the issues I have found since purchase in September.

By what I’ve read on here I think my intercooler has gone the mpg has dropped and it’s not as quick as it was, I’m tempted to do it myself just trying to decide whether to change the radiator as well because of the mileage.

In my case, it was steadily deteriorating MPG and performance and was picked up when the garage did a filter/oil change ......

Wasn't great when I got it, to be fair, as a new battery had been installed - so the computer had reset. I managed to get it to about 24MPG max on long runs, dropping steadily though., was abput 22 last week. Mixture of short and long trips, town and motorway.

Took it to Kev, who suggested they change filters and oil and take a good look - he called me later and showed me photos of the intercooler which was leaking all along the bottom. I texted the guy I bought it from and he arranged to pay Kev to replace it with a new volvo part. Swirl flaps are fine on mine.
Feels fantastic now. Also flushed transmission and haldex - I paid separately for that. I looked at the intercooler when I collected the car- it was in a right mess.
