Question Does the XC90 have a Spare Wheel as standard?

Hopefully a quick, easy question, but the XC90 brochure doesn't make things explicit......

Does the XC90 come with a spare wheel as standard?

If so, is this full size or space saver?

If not, what do you get to help if you have a puncture (as they are not run-flat tyres)? I have seen the option for "Tempa Spare Wheel and Jack Kit". Is this what you have to order to get a spare wheel - and what exactly is included in it?

I'd welcome any help anyone can give.

Thanks.

That sounds like the spare wheel. It's a Volvo jack, a handle to lower the spare from inside the boot, (it's under the car and lowers on a cable) and the temporary spare wheel. It's a narrow space saving thing.

Volvo also do a temporary inflation kit as an alternative.

Oh, I forgot to say that there is no room for a full size spare. Unless you want to carry one on the roof of course, for that long distance safari. ;-)

Thanks Roy. So it sounds as though you have to explicitly order the spare wheel as an option. Is that right?

If the spare is a space saver, is there room under the car in the space for the spare wheel to put the flat full-size wheel you've removed when you've got a puncture? Or do you have to put it in the boot (which would be a pain if you're fully loaded with luggage, e.g. on holiday)?

The default is the temporary inflation kit unless you specify otherwise.

To get the physical space saver spare wheel make sure the dealer ticks and orders the FOC (Tempa Spare Wheel and Jack Kit)

Fortunately, Volvo has not adopted the nightmare world of Run Flat tyres on the XC90!

Thanks LRS. I agree with you re run-flat tyres - they were a chuffing nightmare on the Mini Cooper S I had a few years ago! <Shudder!>

Having been under mine recently to fit the towbar I would say that the full size wheel does not go back up under the car in the event of changing it. Although I did not try, the fact that in the jack toolkit there is a plastic bag to fit over the full size wheel in the event of changing it leads me to believe they are expecting it to be carried in the car :-)

I think it was no cost option originally, but I'm not sure now if it is.

No it won't go under the car and yes, it would be a problem if you were fully loaded.

Nope ... lots of Renault, Mercedes and Fords and others no doubt dont have spare wheel/tyre combos ... just a tub of "goo" and a tyre inflater ..... joy if your tyre has worse than a puncture ....

In the past 20 year, I have owned 10 cars.
I don't think I have ever used the spare tyre.

People always prefer to buy a second hand car with a brand new spare.
I always keep a puncture repair kit in the car, which is a needle with a glue filled piece of string that you push in the hole, pull out and it leaves the string in the hole. Works a treat.

Just got my wife a mini, and those have run flats and no spare at all.
