Default Serpentine Belt Locking Tool

Bit of a long shot, anybody know where I can get a serpentine belt locking tool in the UK? The US seem to have very part & tool you need for these cars, but the UK seems to have ditched them. I dont mind a used one.

Made my own a few weeks ago utilising a sump plug removal tool

Hexagonal shape into a square hole

The hex has to be 19mm and file off two edges and use a 19mm spanner to release tension

That is extremely impressive! Just done mine and used the spanner-on-the-square-raised-part-of-the-forging trick below where the proper removal tool fits. Don't burr it over though!

I used a breaker bar with a couple of washers taped to two adjacent sides of the 1/2" business end, and a nail to secure the tensioner.

Default Serpentine Belt Locking Tool

Thanks for your suggestions. I have just made one out of an old chrome wheel bolt. I tightened a nut right up to the end of the thread, then cut off the remaining portion of thread. I also had to cut about 6mm off the bolt head & file the flats down slightly to fit. I think it will work, but I may have taken too much off, so I have another to try again.

I bought this kit off eBay a few months ago but it was £25 back then. The only thing I wanted was the tensioner tool. I tried mucking about wedging stuff in the hole etc but it’s a doddle with this tool.

You only need to remove two opposite corners. Think twice, file once

Steve

I have the genuine ipd tool and even that requires tweaking as the bar tends to get stuck under something - cannot remember what - so be generous with your bar length - 18 inches maybe - then you can trim to perfection

4x4 idea sounds good if the body of the tool slips straight in once one of the lugs has been trimmed off. I would then weld the body to a bar - it ain't worth the hassle of not doing especially if you are replacing the belt by yourself

My tool is about somewhere as changed both belts recently, happy to send a pic if it might help you. Paulfirmin666@btinternet.com
