Default Volvo 850 speakers ( where to get the correct size )

Right guys as my car is in bits at the moment, I thought I would tackle the speakers!

What a mistake that was, at first glance I believed it was just a normal 5.25" so I popped into my local halfrauds and bought some vibe speakers.

Start to take apart my door then take the blown speakers out to find the bloody things doesnt line up!!!! I mean come on Volvo what the fudge !

Anyone else replaced there Volvo speakers which arent the OEM speakers?

Cheers guys.

Trouble is we're all boring old men
I do wonder whether you might get more response to that question on somewhere like swedespeed where they are more into upgrading things.

I’ve not had to replace any door speakers yet.

I replaced the rear shelf ones in my T-5R saloon with Rockford Fosgate ones purely as one of the oem ones were blown. Couldn’t get the exact same size as it was some weird Volvo size! I had to mod the original speaker housings and also bought new foam to recover the inside of the speaker grills. Looks oem as I retained the grills but sounds better. I hardly use the stereo anyway but just wanted it to work correctly.

I've gathered this from my other threads. Too many oldies on this form. It's a big shame thou, as sweedespeed is more Americans .

But I'll ask the question there much appreciated.

They're 5.25" in the rear door corners, but like any speaker replacement in any car it will require some minor fabrication to sort out an adaptor.

I recently acquired a complete C70 Dynaudio setup to fit to my S70. The front doors accept the 6.5 ins speakers, the rear doors needed a melamine circular mount for the mounting. The rear shelf speakers were 8+ ins and I tried a melamine mount on top of the shelf but then the shelf cover would not fit. I finally hung them under the shelf, success. They sound great, now to fit the huge amp under the driver's seat. I finally found a suitable hole through the firewall for the amp power lead, it's above where the US spec clutch pedal would be. I am finding this thread very useful https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/fo...hp?f=1&t=93646

Cheers from the Land of Oz, Peter

Found these whilst trawling through eBay in a lockdown-induced coma. Might be of use:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/290388290922

Allows for installation of standard 5.25" speakers up front.
