Turns out this is the battery.

It is not charging, my uncle who is a qualified electrician said a cell has gone. My charger won't charge it and neither will his.

That is the reason for the burning smell on the alternator he adds, hopefully it hasn't done any damage.

Thanks,

Matt

So battery replaced. The light came on after 2 minutes. After a few restarts it came back on. Then on idle everything seems to be OK, whining and smell from Alternator seems to have gone.

Would a drive be needed to reset this problem?

Fuse 31 all OK

Many thanks,

Matt

whats the voltage when the alternator is running. have you had the alternator checked, if its coming on after a few minutes of running would suggest all the juice is coming from the batter not the alternator. when you shut the car off the battery can recover some charge, not alot but some usually enough to get it to start.

Hi

Hope you don't mind a newbie jumping on this thread

I have a P reg V40 with 60k (yup and 100% genuine ) but I find the headlight output - if thats the right word- almost dangerous when on dip- is there any solution apart from HID?

I'd rather avoid the HID route if posible

Clean your lenses. Purchase some Philihp's 100% brighter bulbs.

With new battery on it is only reading 11, after a little drive. No increase at all when engine is ticking over.

Thanks,

Matt
