Default P0103 MAF Fault

Has anybody had the above fault?

If so what did you to rectify?

Did you notice any problems?

I just scanned my car with my OBDII tool (first time during my ownership of the car 6 months, due to not being able to find the OBDII tool!)

That code pops up, if the engine is running it won't clear it's just there straight away. With the engine off it does clear but as soon as you start the engine the code returns - So I take it it's doing the fault all the time.

Thanks it's a 2.0d. How does cleaning the throttle body fix it?

Just interested to learn!

It just might have a lot of crud on the filament causing it to read incorrectly out of preset range. It works on the principle of resistance, a current goes through the filament causing it to heat up which in turn gets cooled by flowing air. Resulting filament temperature translates to resistance (which changes with conductors temperature) and ECU reads that as certain amount of flowing air is needed to achieve certain temperature etc. If cleaning doesn't help it's borked.

Isn't the MAF sensor separate to the Throttle body though?

I'll give the MAF sensor a quick clean with some IPA, but do I need to clean the throttle body too?

Forgot to say - not noticed any negative side effects, but I do have lowish MPG - although poor journey styles would account for that.
