The bloke that used to live in my bungalow had one and the two girlfriends (yes, two) that lived here with him made him get rid of it as they said it was too expensive to run
A friend's brother in law wanted to buy a Saab and the friend and her sister talked him out of it, said they were too expensive to run Thats all I've ever heard but I suspected it was nonsense and that they had similar running costs of Volvos?? Lots of hen-pecked men out there!

My mums had hers 4 1/2 years and the only problem was the crankshaft position sensor (cable) Cost £57 brand new from a Saab part specialist and took 10 mins to fit.
Running costs are pretty much Volvo territory in terms of parts and so on. I've sat in Volvos S40s, S60s, S80s, V70s, etc and the Saab in terms of interior is right up there. The car is an absolute pleasure to drive. The clutch is light, the Steering is very sharp and responsive on the move, the dashboard is pointed towards the driver making you feel cocooned inside the cabin. As I said performance is absolutely fantastic! I've only had a few shots of the car, but it's a right laugh when the turbo kicks in. The overboost function found in 3rd gear onwards boosts torque 20ib for 20 seconds at full power! Most surprising bit about the car is how frugal it can be. If you can resist pushing your right foot to the floor, then you will be pleasantly surprised with the fuel consumption. Surprisingly it seems to be more eco at 65-70 than 55 lol. Honestly find a good one and enjoy mate. I would definitely shop around for the right car. My mums came from Saab and as a result it has been a delight to own.

It was all I could do to recognize it as a Saab as it rapidly disappeared into the distance . |

I,ve run a 2.3 turbo ARC now for 18 months and it's been excellent goes like you know what off a shiney shovel. Very comfortable and as mines an estate there's boat loads of room. It's 2002 one owner with full SSH done 140'000 miles.

I currently run a 9-3 V6 2.8 AWD Aero Carlsson, and i think it a fab car. Not sure where the idea that it's expensive to run comes from .... dealer charges are better than most, parts are [mostly] easy to obtain and cheap. Does about 28 MPG and i don't hang about ;-)
I think the interior is great, well laid out and intuitive. Seats are brilliant, i have back problems but i can spend 4 hours in the car and feel great when i arrive (more than i can say for almost any other manufacturer, except Volvo). You could pick up a car like mine (3 yrs old, 30K miles, every optional extra possible), for about £11K .... that's a lot of car for the money. Even if they were more expensive to run, you've already saved yourself a wedge ... Go for it ... it's a great car |

Steady on folks, when I bought my current S60 in 2011 it was a close-run thing with a 260bhp 9-5, fully loaded.
Please don't make me regret my choice, I still miss my year 2000 9-3, notionally same 180bhp as the S60 2.0t, but vastly, vastly better acceleration. And also more comfortable, less rattly, better in snow, the list goes on... Seriously, the only reason I didn't buy that 9-5 ( Saab company still alive and well) was that the main dealership network had gone to to dogs since I bought mine in 1998 & 2000, the small family dealers that I prefer having being bought out by big-chain sharks. That's no longer an issue so to my mind, the sharks have moved on to easier pickings so Saab makes sense again. Last edited by Bill_56; Oct 23rd, 2013 at 23:00. |
