OIL LEVEL LOW, FILL OIL - V70 - 54 plate
Roughly 2 months ago this message popped up
"OIL LEVEL LOW, FILL OIL" - oil was full to the brim 2004 V70 Had a read around and the consensus was not too little oil but low quality oil... no worries. Did due diligence - changed the oil (had the car for 6 months, so no idea what was in there) oil change as stated in the manual and on here. No more messages until today... then "OIL LEVEL LOW, FILL OIL" Checked the level... nearly at the top of the marker... so popped in a few extra drops... now at Max Hot engine - message "OIL LEVEL LOW, FILL OIL" What next --- faulty sensor... easy/hard to do? Now to throw a spanner into the mix.. LPG conversion (2005)... make a difference? Advice.... please! |

Didn't know there was an oil level sensor option. On later models, it wasn't rare for the sensor to go bad.

Software update
My '05 V70 D5, back when I would take it to the dealer, had a software update to account for the fact that the correct level was actually 2/3 of the way up the marked section of the dipstick. Filling it any further ran the risk of run-away dieseling (not too serious if it happens outside of a hotel I suppose)...

Look at the bottom of the sump . To the left of the sump is a square looking block with an electrical connector on it.
That's the sensor. Drain the sump disconnect the electrical plug and it simply unbolts. It sounds like a duff sensor. Not that common to fail though. |

If it's clean you can use it.
