Question V70 D5 EGR carbon build up

Renewed the starter motor and was surprised at the amount of carbon in the EGR casting. Is this normal for a 80k 2005 V70 D5 ?

No it isn't normal, neither is a completely failed starter motor.
Both are fixable for minimal outlay.

That is normal. It happens to everyone with a diesel volvo. I had to clean mine out @128500k it is the 2005 185hp so it has a different egr but still every diesel volvo has this build up eventually so it just needs cleaned

Drove the better half to a business meeting in Sittingbourne & back.

300 miles round trip, and traffic surprisingly light.

£30 in and still some left. 626k miles and this car is..enjoyable.

Today I adjusted the handbrake, fixed an annoying rattle and fitted led H7 bulbs for the dipped lights. A very successful afternoon.
