Very strange! Never seen one like that before! That round item on the inside of the suspension turret appears to have a stub on top of it about the right size for that blue pipe to fit onto?

Well if you dont know what it is i'm Buggered! I guess it could be connected to that stub, though it looks like something to bleed something with, though I can try it.

As i said, i've never had a carb equipped 740 so there's a fair chance someone else that has one will be able to tell you. Might be worth looking at whatever that thing is on the suspension turret though and a closer look inside the end of the blue pipe to make sure something hasn't broken off inside it.

Well done that man! To be honest i wouldn't even have thought about EGR systems on a carburated car.

My first 740 was a 1987 740GLE with K-Jetronic - no EGR on that.

My next two were the same but 1988, still no EGR on them. My current 1988 760GLE (LH-Jetronic) doesn't have EGR either.

Not sure how yours ended up with it!

Or advance retard vac pipe on a distributer.
Apparently it goes on the air intake as per that link ^^^
I thought the same as you at first but it seems not.
