850 tdi autobox warning light obd2 scan help!
Hi, got a problem with the car, gearbox warning light started flashing yesterday and it's going into limp home mode and then losing drive completely! Switched it off and drove a bit further and same again, managed to get it home on the school run like that! Can anyone recommend anybody local with a obd2 reader? Not sure if it uses a specific reader as it is a tdi, strange thing is it drives fine for 5 minutes when you first start it and the only problem I've noticed was not going into reverse from park in the morning but OK from drive for the last few weeks, I had intended to flush it but didn't get round to it! I've tried the pnp selector trick running it through the gears but no luck. Can I buy an obd2 reader on ebay that reads gearbox codes on a tdi? Car is in Borehamwood Hertfordshire just north of London, any help appreciated, thanks Paul.

You need vol fcr really. Maybe there is a member near you with it that can help. I would do it for you if you fancy a drive to swindon.

I thought so, if the car would make it to Swindon I'd take you up on your offer! In layman's terms can you explain vol fcr and how I could go about putting one together? Thanks Paul

It's a program that can be downloaded to a suitable laptop then you need a vag com cable (cheap on eBay) to connect to the car, Quite simple really.

I have Vol-FCR, based in Forest Gate if this any use to you. No doubt others would share the view that if u are keeping the baby the £126 for FCR and having found an old laptop running XP would find you camped in the land of time and money well spent. More than happy to help you out in the meantime |

Hi thanks for the offer, I have just plugged a friends standard obd2 reader in and code p0733 has displayed, I never cleared the code and it seems to be 3rd gear ratio problem, I'm going to dig into it online but it doesn't sound promising! Any help/info would be appreciated. I'm wondering if the vol fcr would give more codes?
Thanks again Paul |

If Vol-FCR works in the same as Vida Dice then it will give you a specific code...TCM something, which might pinpoint the problem..allegedly.
A "P" code is a generic code and could be this that or the other..... I'd take Bigfella's offer for a read.....however unless you can do the work yourself..............it ain't going to be a cheap fix... me think's.

Hi Zigs, hope you good buddy.
FCR does not give error codes in the same way as VIDA does, I think I am right in saying it can be less specific but the legendary PnUtt will no doubt confirm if he reads this at his typically unearthly hour of the day ! However I think Paul will possibly never know unless he hooks up FCR |
