Default remapping a D5 engine

I know this has been discussed before however there seems a lot of contradictory evidence on it

I have a 2008 D5 auto 185 and use it for towing, so would like more torque. Anyone recommend a cheapish remap, reliable ideally one in the West Sussex area?
My car has done 112k miles, guessing it's not too many miles to remap ?

Thanks

Paul

Albeit mine is a D5 from 2012, I've had Polestar installed. Available for many models, and any Volvo dealer should be able to do it.

MTE seem to be well respected and you can get their rempas for £350-400.

I paid for the Polestar as it seemed the best option for my needs. You can guarantee they had full access to the engine mapping software and have been able to increase power levels without compromising the reliability of the engine. IIRC I had mine done at around 120k and it's now on 166k. I plan on taking it over 200k and possibly to 300k so having faith in the reliability was important to me.

Spoke to Don about the MTE remap. Says he can't do xc70 from 2008 onwards ie the current generation she to a PIN code locking us out on the ECU. Anybody know of any other software that can definitely be installed on such a car or if anyone else can offer MTE in the UK. Volvo polestar seems very ex pensive for a modest increase in power. Bugger !

Polestar/Volvo tend to do promotions on the Software, usually on AWD vehicles and this reduces it to about £600 I believe. If nobody else can do it, might be worth waiting for a promotion.

Go for the polestar, it will not over stress anything on your car. I've had mine done, all be it mine is the 205, but it really does make it more drivable. BTW, the optimisation as it's known does not change the gearbox on all cars. You can chat with Polestar on Facebook, they are pretty helpful.

I used Angel Tuning in Banbury for my V70 III MY09 185, fantastic result, car was healthy when I took it there, they removed ecu, copied Volvo specs, tweaked and replaced. Went from 185 to 225 bhp and 400 to 440kNm Torque.
Gear and throttle response better mpg improved by approx 10mpg.

Cost £350 at the time.

Over last 2 years have run 5 BG244 (every 5000miles) cleans through fuel and that has boosted power and mpg. Running with Shell V-Power diesel and I change standard air filter every 6 months.

The problem you face with is that on later cars (certainly on my 2010 D5 twin turbo) the ECU has been locked/coded.

RICA can do it but there is conflicting information. A local dealer said "yes", RICA HQ said they needed the ECU posting to them (as if!)

Much as I'd like it, the Polestar becomes disproportionately expensive on a 6 year old car - something around the £300- 400 mark is reasonable.

I can't understand why Polestar isn't heavily discounted on, say, 5 year+ cars: it's better to get 50% of the original retail price than 50% of nothing!
