Polestar attracts a 10% loading on my D4xc70, with Volvo insurance. For some reason the xc90 with polestar is not loaded according to my dealer.
All the companies I have contacted regard it as a modification and slap a loading on it, the loading varies, lowest is 10% one was 30% but I don't think they wanted my business as the premium was stupid to start with.

I contacted Polestar and asked them if they had any offers that might be applicable to my XC70 or if they anticipated having any in the future and they replied:

"Thank you for your interest in Polestar!
We do not have any special offers right now and no plans to have it unfortunately."

So it looks like the best that can be done is haggling with the dealers for the best that they can offer. Lower than £700 looks unlikely.

Seven hundred quid for a computer remap not a rolling road bespoke is ridiculous. If the car was mapped properly to begin with there would be no need for Volvo to sell their official remap. If it's safe and durable it should have been fitted to the car as standard. Xc70 my wife drives was not cheap. They short changed us if they didn't give it the optimum mapping from the factory.

I'm guessing you're not familiar with the concept of an upgrade whereby you decide whether you wish to spend money making something better than the standard version. Several reasons why a Polestar upgrade is different to something you can get done in a backstreet garage: it won't cause any problems with the engine, it won't invalidate the manufacturers warranty and it will also change the characteristics of the auto gearbox so you can make better use of the additional power.

......and it won't be erased during routine servicing when the ECU is updated. You can ask the dealer not to erase any remap you might have loaded but then you won't get ECU upgrades routinely and free of charge.

Hastings Direct don't load a Polestar quote, Aviva don't but in my experience, and that of others here they bump up the second year!! Volvo Insurance are infathomable.
Try haggling with the dealer, Polestar is well worth it and you benefit from any software upgrades with dealer service.

So does this impact the free software updates when the car is serviced at a Volvo dealership? In other words, if you have Polestar then the software update isn't carried out during the service for free?

Nope, I get the updates at service time as normal, it's just that the updates do not overwrite the polestar as can happen with third party upgrades.
With third party upgrades you have 2 choices if the service upgrade is likely to overwrite your upgrade, 1 don't have the service upgrade or 2 reinstall the upgrade after the service upgrade has wiped some or all of it.
With polestar the dealer computer detects it and safeguards it when service updates are installed as part of the service.

Sorry but the use of the words "any remap" were meant to refer to any remap other than Polestar. As green van man says, Polestar is identified by the diagnostic software as part of the Volvo ECU software and is not erased.

I get offered a boot mat @-£30 off ....not quite a P* is it
