The negative lead of that charger lead isn't connected to the negative terminal is it??

If it is take it off and bolt it to an earth point on body

Why would that be a 'better' earth than the battery itself?

I used the negative terminal clamp bolt to secure the negative charger connection. Did that for 6 years on a Peugeot and had no problems. What is your reason for suggesting an alternative fixing point?

It isn't about being a better earth . You have a little computer as part of the negative battery terminal and if you attach the charger earth to the battery direct, it by-passes this " Battery Monitor " and the ingoing current is not monitored ...

I believe its says this in the owners manual,

Also if you ever jump a car leads should never be put battery to battery, it should be supply cars battery to engine earth,

Same with a charger regardless of car where the charger is the good battery

I must re-examine the negative terminal and see where the charger lead is attached. I assume that if it is above the microprocessor it will be OK.

Chassis , there is a convenient bolt where the negative lead bolts to the chassis behind the Left suspension tower .
