Has anyone heard about the Sat-nav of the above model now being unsupported by Volvo i.e. no map upgrade discs being produced, in other words Obsolete !!!
I contacted Volvo Sweden to ask what was happening and got a short reply saying that my enquiry was passed to the department concerned.
Never expected Volvo to do anything like this particularly since the Sat-nav cost a fortune to add.

I've recently received a disc from them for my '57 XC70. It's advertised as 2016 although the date on the map is 2015, but it's 8 years newer than the one it came with so I'm happy with it.

Ever get the feeling that "Your call is important to us and will be answered as soon as possible" is code for "Your call has been dispatched to an empty warehouse in Siberia and will be ignored for as long as possible" - the visual is an an empty, grey warehouse, a single table in the middle with a dust-covered bakelite telephone on it, ringing, echoing...

Or is that just me?

Sadly it got caught at a bad time. The RTI MMM2 system wasn't exactly top-of-the-line in 2007 when these cars launched (also the time the first iPhone launched and before the vast majority of us had ever heard of "Android" or "smartphone"). By the 2011 model year it was quite tragically behind the times (DVD satnav? Really?) and was a dead-end platform. Thankfully the newer platforms are software driven rather than tied to discs.

None of which excuses the lack of available new discs. Sadly the truth is that this didn't affect anyone that Volvo (or other car manufacturers) care about. They care about people who buy a new car every 1-3 years. They care about fleet buyers and lessors. They do not care about someone who bought a 5 year old second hand car that they happened to make.

It doesn't negate the fact that a lot of us have obsolete satnavs with a poor user interface...but once you get over it you'll realise that a £100 TomTom with lifetime European map updates and significantly better real time traffic, touch screen and better route mapping, is a far better option.

I updated mine but it doesn't change the poor UI, rubbish routing and poor traffic updates...so I went back to my TomTom
