Default Collision Warning with Full Auto Brake

I have the Driver Support Pack on my S80. This should include "Collision Warning with Full Auto Brake". However, I cannot find any configuration setting that mentions auto braking.

I have a couple of options in 'Collision Warning' settings but nothing related to auto braking.

Is there any way of determining whether I have the auto braking function on my car?

The reason I ask is that I've seen this in the Owner's Manual:

Quote:
Two system levels
Depending on how the car is equipped, the
"Collision Warning with Auto Brake and
Cyclist and Pedestrian Detection" function
may appear in two variants:

Level 1
The driver is merely warned of occurring
obstacles by means of visual and acoustic
signals - no automatic braking intervenes, the
driver must himself brake.

Level 2
The driver is warned of occurring obstacles
by means of visual and acoustic signals - the
car is braked automatically if the driver himself
does not act within a reasonable time.
So, is there any way of knowing apart from the risk of actually trying it out?!

Collision Warning with Full Auto Brake normally goes hand-in-hand with Adaptive Cruise Control. I would say if you do not have the latter then you will not have the former.

I have ACC. I just see no mention of auto-brake in any configuration settings.

The brochure lists the following functions that are included in the DSP:

Quote:
Collision Warning with Full Auto Brake
Pedestrian and Cyclist Detection
Adaptive Cruise Control
Distance Alert
Queue Assist (Automatic Transmission only)
Lane Departure Warning
Driver Alert Control
Active High Beam
Road Sign Information Display
The only functions that I have not been able to test or configure in the settings menus are:

- Full Auto Brake
- Pedestrian and Cyclist Detection

Everything else I've either tested and/or configured settings for.

The problem is that the Owner's Manual is an exercise in how not to write car owner's manuals. It's all-encompassing so will talk about every single possible feature without any explanation of how to check if you actually have that feature.

Other than being able to switch it off and on, I do not think it is configurable!

Yeah - I'm kind of coming to that conclusion. It'd be nice to experience it or test it in a safe manner.

You can test the city safety with a wheelie bin, I have done it before (not in a Volvo) and it worked pretty well. Disclaimer: one time we did it the car hit the bin at 15 mph and it did leave a mark that polished out fine It was a VW UP! btw.

I tried it with a cardboard barrier lined with tin foil. It plowed into it everytime! Bin day on Friday so when it's emptied, I may try it out.

I'm just re-reading the manual. City Safety is a standard feature on almost every Volvo and operates at speeds of up to 50Km/h but not below 4Km/h (e.g. when parking).

The Collision Warning with Auto Brake and Cyclist and Pedestrian Detection is a different system:

Quote:
"Collision Warning with Auto Brake and
Cyclist and Pedestrian Detection" is an aid to
assist the driver when there is a risk of colliding
with a pedestrian, cyclist or vehicle in
front that are stationary or moving in the same
direction.
I also note this:

Quote:
The Brake Support and Auto Brake functions
are always enabled - they cannot be
deactivated.
So it looks like the auto brake is a fixed feature that is non-configurable.

Don't you get the "My Volvo" web feature in the UK? I have it here in Sweden. Via that web site, I can see a lot of stuff about my car, including the options list.
It's partially in Swedish, but you can see the text from my car's list below. I've made the line about automatic brake (broms in Swedish) red.

Yes, I am registered on My Volvo but it tells me very little about the car!

If I select the Options tab on the My Volvo site, all I get is this:

Quote:
Options
- Tempa Spare Wheel and Jack

Option Packages

Winter Pack with Active Bending Lights
- Heated Front Screen
- Heated Front Seats

Driver Support Pack
- Lane Departure Warning with DAC in Active High Beam & RSID
- Adaptive Cruise Control
So, it's not very useful.

I'm going to the dealership at the weekend so I will ask them to print out the full spec, which I'm assuming they can do.
