Default Seat bases 240 into 140 does it go ?

Hi
my dad wants to change his 140 front seats for some 240 front seats
we have the 140 runners and u shaped tubes ect, and we have the 240 runners+ brackets and seats.
the back bolt holes on the 240 runners seem to have two angled brackets spot welded over the rear holes which line up with the two holes on the back of the U shaped 140 seat base, going to have to alter things slightly to make the front of the runner bolt to the 140 seat base and then pray that the seat goes low enough to use !

Anyone who has do this mod before or has any advice, relating to this thread please get in touch.

Cheers.

Sam,

I can't help in detail, but I have seen 240 seats in a 140 (at a sensible height) so one way or another it can be done.

What year is the 140, and what year was the 240?

John

The 240 seats will fit in a 140. But the seat height will be a bit higher. Not too much, but still. I am 2m tall and will try to get them a bit lower.

the 140 is 72" version and the 240 is unknown year, as I bought the runner from some one breaking them on ebay.

Well, I think if you experiment a bit you'll do it.

I just noticed that you're new to the forum. Welcome! Post up some photos when you can! I'm not so far away (West Yorkshire) and I'm doing up a 164.

I made some new seat mounting frames to fit Mazda sports seats in mine. At first, I trial fitted them on the original Volvo rails, but they ended up too high, so I made the new frames. Some pics on page 4 of my project thread, but the car is still in bits and I don't have any "seats installed" photos.

I look forward to hearing more about the 144!

Cheers

I've put C-reg 240 front seats into my '68 142S, as they are so comfortable as compared with standard 140 seats. Not sure if I did it the way you suggest so will look at it when next at the hobbyshop - my memory is rubbish!

However, can confirm far less clearance between seat and steering wheel; it would be a squeeze if a bit chubby round the thighs! I too intend to look at this when other tasks done. Another issue I found was that the 140 handbrake fouled the fore-and-aft adjuster lever at one end or the other. It didn't affect me but might restrict some.

Glad to read I'm not the only person altering a car away from its original spec on comfort grounds - thats important in my book!
