Default 1965 front rotor torque specs

Hello and greetings from Canada.
Yes my friends, it"s once again that time
Where the Canadian guy has yet another question for the more experienced Volvo owner.
Continuing on with the suspension/breaking rebuild.
I am now installing the new rotors and bearings on the 1965 122s in preparation for the new calipers and a finally competed front end restoration.
My question is ?
When tightening the castle nut and installing the split pin on the new rotor.
What is the proper torque and pin procedure.
I'm getting conflicting information out there.
One guy out there said to go 50 lb and back off to second pin location before torque.
which doesn't seem correct.
In my manual it says 22 lb and back off a third of a turn.
But in my book the reference is for a hub not rotor.
is there a difference ?
Any help that anyone can give me would once again be greatly appreciated.
Thanks again.
Shayne

Hi, I ran into the same issue. 50 seemed way too tight, I vaguely recall there is an error in one of the books.....
So I used 22 and backed off just enough to insert the cotter pin. Others will likely chime in and comment.

The disc is just that, it is fitted onto the hub which holds the bearings.

Shayne;

A high initial torque value (misprint notwithstanding) assures that any and all gaps (due to not perfectly seated bearing races etc) are taken up and all free play is closed to zero...if you have worked carefully (have cleaned and seated the new bearing races fully), have packed new grease into the bearings, and back them of to the first available cotter pin opportunity after that. It wont hurt anything.

I remember a story where an acquaintance (honest!) drove around for a week with bearings (of a big Pontiac roadbarge) at the installation torque (before he adjusted them down), with apparently no long-term damage.

Cheers

Shayne;

OK!...I like Ninos Restaurant in Waterbury CT...and I'll bring the "training SU carb" ...hopefully the kind offer includes a nice Vino Rosso, and I promise to chime in, in the future also, with hopefully useful tips!

Cheers
