Default 1981 264 Auto – fine condition – £400

I need to clear out my shed a bit – which means that something has to happen to this 264. It'd provide all manner of useful parts for my 262C project, but stripping it would be a massive shame.

Before I start taking it to bits – would anyone like to save it by buying it for £400?

It's done 85,000 miles. It drove beautifully when it was last on the road (at least five years ago). It has a huge service history. The toffee-coloured leather interior's in fantastic condition. It has no structural rust. The exterior has a few bubbles here-and-there, but it's generally very presentable. The paint's very good beneath the protective dust coating. I seem to remember it needs an exhaust.

It's near Chippenham, Wiltshire.

The pics below show the worst bits.

Sam

Someone's just pointed out the pool of ooze behind the front wheels. I'll investigate this tomorrow and report back…

Hmmm... the ooze is ATF and it's dribbling from the bell-housing. So it's presumably a the gearbox front seal. But whatever it is, the 'box will have to come out for rectification.

Having now thought about this sensibly, I'm going to steal the engine and 'box for the 262C. They're the only bits I really need and they're both known good 'uns. If anyone might be interested in the rest of the car – in the 'receive' position for a proper Volvo engine – do shout.

Default 4 pot?

A few years ago I spent a weekend taking the dead V6 out of a friends 264 and put a 2.1 E motor and manual o/d box in its place. The 240 bits came out of a rolled GLE saloon so we had all the bits that we needed but almost everything just swapped over. Dead easy.
Thought about swapping the axle but because the 264 was originally on carbs not injection I didn't think it would make much difference. It didn't.
Just an idea but the shell looks pretty good and it may make a good project.

Default the solution......

....is a mustang engine pref. 302 cubic inch, especially as the distributor is at the front, making it 'easier'.......

Looking at it from the dark side it would make a good home for the 6 cylinder diesel. Pref the late turbo. Use of 740 parts would make the job easier.
There used to be a 265 with a B20 running around a few years ago, I wonder what happened to that?

Default Lights!?

Sam are they the earlier headlights or regular later ones?
Hard to tell under all that filth! Lol
Need some early ones for my 262c!
I know you want to leave completish!
Got a Rover V8 on carbs here with 2 LDV gearboxes!
Can't be any less reliable than my injection one.
Thx Ian

Later ones I believe.

Chevy V8 was a popular US transplant...which sounds good to me : )
