Year 5 extended warranty: £495
My Year 5 extended warranty is up 25% from my Year 4 warranty to £495. I called up the Volvo warranty helpline and they couldn't explain the increase. Is it worth renewing the warranty? or should I just put some cash aside?
The car is serviced annually at a main dealer and passed its first MOT last year with no issues. It's due another service and MOT next month. It's the 25% annual increase in the extended warranty price that concerns me.

I took out the year 4 warranty mainly because in year 3 My car had a problem with the 4WD system. I did not continue with Year 5 because the problem had not recurred.
£495 would pay for quite a lot of repairs. It can depend on the mileage which if yours is quite high then this might account for the increase. If you put it in the bank and have no problems you will have saved £495 and will have this ready for year 6 when when if the 25% trend continues might be £600.

I did check with the warranty company and the Year 6 warranty will likely rise to £600. So it looks like it just goes up every year. I've got a few weeks to ponder this over.

Your choice though, and it depends on what is covered by the warranty...read it and decide.

I have a late 2014 V70 D5, owned from new. The issue of extended warranty perplexed me too. After much deliberation I decided to pass, and set aside the cost of the warranty for future use. I'm now coming up on 5yrs of ownership and other than servicing, has not required any attention, so I have 2 years of "warranty" set aside.
The V70 D5 is a well tried and tested vehicle, with few major faults - rear arm bushes appearing on here at least to be a common fail. The decision when AWD is part of the vehicle really complicates matters. I'd say if its upto or pre MY2015 its a bigger chance of a repair being necessary, but VIDA/DICE 2014D can still help you. Cars after this time cars are outside the cloned units timeframe and I suspect you'll be at the mercy of main dealers. Which is why my 2014 V70 is being run into the ground. Cheers Bob |
