Hi Steven
Is this only open to Volvo Tuning Members or is it open to VOC members too ?? I would love to attend if it is open to VOC Members. Only downside is I would have to bring my Wife as she loves the Vulcan too. Rob (Scuba0576)

New meeting time of 13:00
IMPORTANT UPDATE
If you are planning to attend the Vulcan Meeting this coming Saturday 27th please read on as I have important information regarding the meeting and final joining instructions. (Please read all 6 points). 1) the weather for Saturday is set to be dry and sunny. However please remember to bring warm clothing. To state the obvious you will be on an airfield hard stand and you will feel the chill in the wind in particular as we get towards the end of the day and sun starts to go down. 2) cars will be asked to assemble on the grassed area of the South Warwickshire Flying school. The address and postcode for your Satnav is South Warwickshire Flying School, Airfield Estate, Loxley Lane, Wellesbourne, Warwick CV35 9EU, United Kingdom. 3) due to a triumph motor cycle publicity shoot and unforeseen sickness with Vulcan volunteers group our meeting time has been pushed back to 13:00. VT members should assemble in the South Warwickshire Flying School car park from 13:00. Look out for the Volvo flag and I'll direct you to park and also allocate a number for you and your car to be photographed in front of the Vulcan on the hardstand. 4) When being called up for the photo, cars will be photographed in groups. It is vital that you follow instructions as you will be on a live aircraft taxi way. Speed limits must be observed driving to the Vulcan and driving back up the taxi way to the car park after your shoot. ( I know it's tempting but please.....I don't want to see any Volvo's making a break for it in an attempt to set a speed record down the main runway....both you and I will end up in serious trouble). 5) in between the photo shoots the engineering team will power up the aircraft so you see the bomb bay doors open, lights on and flaps cycled. The team will also talk you through the aircrafts history and let you into some interesting facts. Those who have booked the cockpit tour will also be shown around the live flight deck. 6) VT have the aircraft from 14:00 through to the end of day and for those who can stop on I hope we get some pictures as the site goes dark. We are set for a great day, plenty of time to socialise talk cars, look at some Triumph bikes and play with planes. There is even a set of giraffe ladders that go up 50 feet to get some great high up shots. Anyhow all for now see you Saturday from 13:00 onwards please. This a VT unique opportunity for team members to get up and close and personal with the Vulcan that Guy Martin recently fast taxied in the channel 4 documentary 'The last flight of the Vulcan' http://youtu.be/rJ9RI1XSoWs It will include plenty of photographic opportunities, including a photo shoot with cars under the Vulcan. Systems Demonstration (subject to serviceability on the day), which involves putting power on the aeroplane (without running the engines) and operating certain systems, including: the control surfaces (elevons and rudder); the navigation, anti-collision and landing lights; operating the air brakes; opening the bomb bay doors. During this time visitors are escorted around the aeroplane to ensure the best view and opportunities to take photos. A tour of XM655, including a visit to the cockpit, in groups of 4. This covers the engineering aspects of what we do to maintain the aeroplane, as well as Vulcan history and the history of our aeroplane in particular. During the tour, various doors and panels will be open to enable viewing and photographs. There is usually also the opportunity to view the Vulcan from different angles, including from above for those who are happy to climb the steps to the top of our 'giraffe'. Although places are limited to the cockpit tour, there is no limit to number of cars and owners that can turn up to view the plane. |

Had a brilliant day yesterday at Wellesbourne visiting XM655 - huge thanks to everyone that attended. Despite the wind & cold and the fact that XM655 staff tried to cancel the event at 08:30 that morning, I think everyone really enjoyed the day.
Some fantastic cars and a great bunch of friendly people. Thanks again for an excellent day. I've uploaded all my pics to Flickr which can be viewed/downloaded here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/131090...57664590012030 A small selection of those photos: .....and Special Guest |
