Default S40 2.0 Diesel D4204T Compression Test

Hi,
I'm looking to buy a cheapish compression test kit for my Volvo S40 2010 with the 2.0 Diesel D4204T engine. The glow plugs are on the back of this engine and apparently to get to them the EGR needs to come off and the Haynes manual even says the engines mounts should be unbolted and the engine supported and moved forward to allow better access.... So I'd prefer to use a compression tester with a dummy injector instead to avoid that hassle if possible.

I've seen kits that include several dummy injectors but I can't see anything that says for sure if one is compatible with the Siemens injectors used in this engine, has anyone tried this? Any help would be appreciated.

I thought I would answer my own question in case it helps anyone....I couldn't find a specific dummy injector for this engine but managed to make one using an old faulty injector and bit of cutting and drilling. All four cylinders read 300psi, I'm not exactly sure what they're meant to be but since they're all identical at least I can rule out one pot being bad.

If you test through the glow plug holes than it looks like most cheap compression test kits would include a suitable adapter but you would have to do all the extra work removing the EGR etc to get to them. Either way it's not the easiest job for a diyer.

Hey there,

What kind of issues are you having with this engine?
