Default V50 rear caliper problem

Hello and thank you for reading this message.

My rear passenger side caliper will not retract so I cannot fit in the new brake pads. Yes my retraction tool is a rubbish manual thing that doesn't fit perfectly but overall the caliper appears stuck. Hoping it's not permanently seized, are there any tricks for getting it to retract?

Thank you.

Just use a decent quality and well fitting tool.

I've got one of these.

It'll cope with pretty much all the caliper and piston designs you'll ever come across...... and they're cheap.

I changed my rear brake pads (V50 T5 AWD) a couple of months back and found none of the adaptors in my brake pad kit (similar to that in the photos posted above) fitted the piston indents.

I don't know if Ford/ Volvo used an unusual size?

In the end I resorted to long nose pliers inserted into the piston indents. Not easy to get enough leverage to rotate the piston back in the caliper. Not fun but did the job.

It needs to fit properly as the rear pistons have to be rotated back in, rather than just squeezed back in

Thank you for the replies.

If the caliper is stuck somewhat, is there any technique for helping with that, such as WD40 in the right place?

Does anyone have a link to the specific sized adapter needed for the retraction tool to fit the V50 piston?

Thank you!

It's stuck somewhat because you're not using the right tool so use the right tool.

That's all that's needed.

It could also be seized and knackered.

My rear calipers have both been changed now.

They should turn in pretty freely. Major force shouldn't be needed.
