This is interesting, so maybe my car has always been like this then. As it doesn't happen to all cars or consistently on one side it sounds like something that can be fixed. Please keep us up to date with developments, especially if someone gets it resolved.

Default whistling sound XC60

I am from France and I have same problem than you, it means at 100km/h on left mirror I can hear a whistling. If anyone of you got same problem and you solved it , please let me know because it is unconfortable to drive with such noise. Thanks a lot for your help.

I have had the car into Volvo for an issue with the ABL (you may have seen this on the posts) and asked them to look at the noise - they have not managed to cure it

For the record, the noise comes from the passenger side, and seems to be from the area of the door mirror, and is only apparent when I open the driver windows. This leads me to think that it is a sealing issue and the reduction in pressure caused by opening the window (Venturi Effect) means that the car is pulling air into it somewhere in that area though a small gap/hole hence the whistling

Suggestions?

I've had my XC60 since 1 Sept 09 and have also noticed the whistle at speeds above 50mph from the drivers side only. It's worse in high cross winds, I have it in booked in for its 3000 mile check on 2 Nov and will ask them to check this out and report back any findings.

Default XC60 wind noise over 85mph.

There's an easy fix for this problem -

Stick to the speed limits

Seems to me that 50mph or 100kph (as mentioned within postings) are both very legal speeds on the roads, and there are many places where you could do 85mph, or even more, quite legally in the UK.

Yer, possibly, but they didn't say they were on private ground doing 85mph so the assumption is they were on a motorway or dual carriageway - ie breaking the speed limit. Perhaps the poster should clarify where and why they were doing that speed?

It was mental, we were in a getaway car pelting it down the M1 with the rozzers just inches behind us, we almost had to ditch the diamonds, did I mention we were on the wrong side of the road? .... Of course on another occassion we were on holiday in Germany enjoying our new car; the Autbanhn, as no doubt you are aware has a Richtgeschwindigkeit ('advisory' limit) of 130 Km/h (80 mph). It is perfectly legal to travel above that.

Except when you see a round white sign with a red border and "130". This means max limit 130. When two lines cross the 130, you have free speed (ie unlimited).
