Default V70 2000 won't read sim card

Volvo v70 2000 carphone.

I can't the carphone to react to a sim card in my "new" Volvo v70 from 2000. The sim card have been working in the car, before i bought it, but not know. The sim card reads in my phone but in the Volvo, the phone display only say "Insert sim card" (In german for some reason). I can't access the menu system either, but that may need a sim card.

Any suggestions?

My guess would be the age of the SIM card is the problem.

I use quite a few GSM devices, some are, like your Volvo getting on a bit and are only compatible with older 2G/3G SIM cards.

You could try SIM cards from other phone providers or see if your current provider can offer a SIM which is backwards compatible with older devices?

It takes several minutes to boot when you put the SIM in the slide holder for the first time and yes the SIM needs to be in place to access the menu. Language display may well update when the SIM is accepted. If your "dash board messages" are in English then so should the phone menu.
NB it is always worth cleaning off the card contacts with a soft tissue. The onboard phone uses a 2G sim card - a good source is GiffGaff but your provider may be able to help with a "legacy" version.
