D5 (D5244T to 2005) - What the feck have i done?? - Page 3

Mike ,
It is a brand new I/C (fitted by my local Indy) and after it was fitted I was still getting limp mode so I took off the pipes to check for any leaks (they were all ok) and after putting them back on, the car wouldn't run right. I have checked all the vacuum pipes and cant see anything wrong .

Sounds like a vac leak and unmetered air is entering the engine causing it to run rough. I would thoroughly re check all your hoses for security and for splits.

Thats exactly what I thought, so I have had the hoses off and back on 3 times now just to check and recheck and they all look perfectly ok to me . Im starting to feel paranoid now that I have done something stupid

Lol I would say it's probably is something silly, especially as it's only happened since you swapped intercoolers. Air intake temperature sensor plugged in? Map sensor, boost solenoid? I only ever tune petrols so some of my theories may be way out!

It's not the pipe from the air filter to the turbo that's collapsed inside is it?
Just guessing, but I've heard this can happen and that would stop it revving and cause it to run very sooty....
I believe the pipe can de-laminate so even if it looks ok on the outside it can still be partially blocked.

On my car this had happened, and also the pipe was very soft near the turbo, it didn't cause any issues because it was spotted on service and replaced under warranty. The stealer said they had seen many and so routinely checks for this. May be worth a look.

The fresh air pipe going into the turbo was replaced last year . I have had it off and I seems alright ,not soft at all .

Ok.. Even more confused now.
If I take the vacuum pipe off that goes from the turbo boost pressure valve to the turbo, the car runs significantly better ,(even although I obviously therefore have no turbo boost) . No more smoking and revs up willingly .
Can anyone explain this?? And yes the pipes were on the correct ports , I never had them off in the first place anyway.

You will have boost! Unlimited boost as your actuator will have no air pressure to open your wastegate! That's why my car is in for a head gasket. That pipe fell off my turbo and it over boosted.

the turbo on these cars do not use air pressure to open the waste gate. the actuator is controlled by vac..
