Default window problem help needed

Hi all,

For sometime now i have suffered with the common problem of the drivers door window pack suffering a fault inasmuch that all windows work but the rear passenger window would only go down but not up.

This has not been a problem as the switch on the rear door worked and could be raised from there.
As i rarely have rear passengers i have just lived with it.

Today though i did have a rear passenger who put the window down and lo and behold the door switch has also stopped working so i am stuck with an open window which i cannot close.

Is there any easy way to fix this before i can get to an auto electrician and what is likely to be the cause.

Any help and info greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance Ernie.

This link should help: ~ although I still have the new replacement ready to fit (left hand) the original is still working! Quite a common problem I think.

No problem Ernie: ~ you may just get away with a good clean of the contacts? Watch out for the small internal springs/parts (you can open up in a large clear plastic bag or covered bowl if it helps) had to do mine a couple of times but as previously mentioned it worked for me.
The alternative is the L/H switch rather than the second mortgage Volvo part!
See previous correspondence regarding the wire changes and the importance of getting the same right if you do change the switch pack.
Good Luck
Bob.

Thanks Bob,
Is there any reason why the switch on the rear passenger door has just stopped working today even though the drivers switch has been out of action for over 12 months. Is it allied to the drivers switch pack.

Do not want to purchase a new one for £125 odd and find i still have a problem. Cheers Ernie

Hi Ernie,

You might be lucky to find that if you swap the two rear switches over, you have then find one that will put the window up.

They are not that expensive new (and they fit both left and right rear doors)
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Volvo-S70...-/293062977562

If that doesn't work, then tackling the master switch is the next option, either with known good used, or converting a LHD unit.

Or (I can't remember) if you remove and disconnect the switch revealing the wires to the rear window motor, you might be able to provide power directly to the window winding motor from a 12v supply to make the window go up. That would be at your own risk because you could do some damage if you short things out.

Hi Ernie,

Check that the rear passengers can control their own windows.
The ON/OFF button on the master switch turns that feature on and off to prevent kids adjusting the windows.

Re SteveSarre,
Good suggestion about changing the rear switches over. Will try that first.

If that does not solve the problem it looks like it will be a new master switch.
Thanks Ernie

Steve,
You are a genius, just been out and checked the on/off switch and as you rightly surmised that was the problem.
Rear window now closed from switch on the window itself.
What would people do without this forum. Thank you very much greatly appreciated. Ernie
