Default V40 GDI slug

Having just received a high pressure fuel pump for my slug of a GDI, this weekends project is sorted for me.

Advice please, changing this involves all the intake manifold to be removed including the EGR valve. everything will get cleaned with copious amounts of carb clearner, but what do i look for in the EGR valve. i cleaned this about 3 months ago, but didnt check for action of the spring etc. what should it do and where should it be i.e. open or closed without voltage.

i am a complete luddite when it comes to egr's and this is a learning curve for me.

thanks

Mark

I have changed the high pressure pump recently without removing the maniford and EGR. All I did was to loosen the throttle body to give just enough space to take the old pump out and fit the new one in.

Cool Slightly off topic, EGR oil leak??

My 1.9D has a very minor oil leak when the tubo gets used hard. It seemed to come from the turbo charger area when looked at from below, BUT with the engine cover off I did find a trace of oil just under the EGR gasket. Does anyone know if you can get some kind of minor oil leak from that area, as I checked all around the turbo and it might well be from the EGR.

Also I am getting the EGR and manifold cleaned soon and already have a gasket for the EGR plus a manifold gasket and screws. Is it better to remove the entire manifold to do a proper job or is that not required. I was thinking it would be easier to remove a stuck valve if it was all on the bench etc.

Could it be from the inlet manifold gasket which is exactly above the EGR? If yes, then have a quick look at Baffler's excellent guide here: http://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.php?t=114946 . I had the same issue and this gasket sorted the slow oil spraying all over the rear of the engine bay
