Default Key odd behaviour

Hi all, my key has started to behave slightly strangely...

When opening the door or boot for the first time in the day (could be morning or afternoon these days...) the usual quick press for the door open doesn't work. I am normally in the garage, car is outside, and I am about 2-3 ft from the boot.
If wander to the side slightly and keep trying eventually it works. Say 4 or 5 times.

I don't think that it is the key battery (2018 car) because after the initial opening it seems fine. I.e. i drive the car somewhere and lock it, then come back and can open from distance (at least 20 to 30 yds).

Anyone else had this?

Try changing the key battery anyway.

Does it happen with all keys or just one? If just one I would say definitely battery problem.

99.999% confident a new battery will solve this. Just changed mine after it took 3 presses to activate the locks and it now works correctly, the car is 15 months old.

What they said
I had the exact same behaviour, also with the foot-swipe not really working and a new battery was an instant fix.

Agree with the above posts, my 2 year old V90 did the same a few weeks ago. New battery solved it.

I am sure that Volvo used to change the batteries at an annual service?
Seems like they do not do that anymore, with numerous folk having to change the batteries themselves.

I have the 5 year service package and the 4th one was carried out at the end of last month and never thought of asking.
Due to the virus, I got no paperwork, regarding the service, only the Service Book stamped and a brief verbal handover.

They definitely don't change the batteries in the keys otherwise they would be asking for all keys to be taken in at the time of service.

Fotrunately, my dealer doens't replace the battery at the annual service.
To me, a battery only has to be replaced when it becomes depleted.

One is supposed to get a warning if the battery needs changing:

https://www.volvocars.com/uk/support...te-control-key

Now that I know that it is not changed at service (I am sure they were, when I first drove Volvo’s), I bought a new battery today, as the one in the fob is now 4 years in use.
