Default XC60: Fully charged T8 only showing 20 miles

I've been charging up my MY18 XC60 at home using the three pin plug. At charging complete, I only see 20 miles of battery range on the display.

I performed a factory reset of the Sensus system (I'm having problems getting On Call and the onboard modem to work), but after that it's still saying 20 miles on a full charge.

I was expecting 30 miles of indicated charge - I wasn't expecting to get 30 miles, I was just expecting it to promise it.

Am I doing something wrong, or is there something else wrong here?

Why do you think you would get 30 miles of indicated range? I haven't heard that anywhere.

I would expect you to get maximum maybe 23miles displayed dropping down to maybe circa 20 miles in colder conditions.

What you are getting sounds about right.

If you stick it in pure mode it might bump up the range by 2 miles or so.

20 miles of indicated electric range sounds about right. Mine only every shows a max of 21 miles in hybrid mode or 24 miles if I select Pure.

Most of the reviews I've seen for the T8 seem to imply that you're supposed to get "up to 28 miles".

And the Volvo product page says "up to 33 miles"

https://www.volvocars.com/uk/v/cars/xc60-hybrid

Not that I'm expecting anything like those figures (especially in the cold).

I guess I'm really asking whether it's normal to see the driver display indicate 20 miles on a full charge? How does the car know how to show that figure? Outside temperature? Battery capacity? If there's an issue with the battery, I'd rather get it sorted under warranty, but if this is normal behaviour, then I'm fine with that.

EDIT: Thanks for the example, that's set my mind at rest!

Generally you will get a good few miles of extra range as you are driving by the Regenerative braking. Add those miles to the 24ish miles of range in Pure (which turns off things like the electrically driven AC motor to minimise power use) and you get near the 'up to' mileage claims.
However, that 20 mile range is just a guesstimate based on battery capacity, the actual range you manage really depends on how much throttle you use.

Mine currently shows 21 miles when fully charged and I switch the engine on. Putting it into Pure mode increases it to 23 (I have no idea why it does show a difference).

Out of interest, how much are you taking out of the battery before recharging it? I'm finding that if I don't use more than 1/2 to 3/4 of the battery, it never recharges fully, generally showing between 18 and 20 miles. If I use the whole battery it will recharge and show 21 miles upon completion. Mine is a 68 plate MY19 model.

Mine will show 25 in Pure. The increase in range is, apparently, due to lowering the suspension (on my air suspension model anyway), running the zircon in ECO mode and allowing slightly more energy to be taken from the battery.

As I'm only doing short journeys at the moment, I have tended to run mine completely flat before recharging. Good to know that based on your experience, I should have at least another 12 months recharging up to 21 miles.

I only picked up my car last Saturday, so only had a couple of trips over the weekend. I charged it up when I got home with about 5 miles left of battery.

I've also been using the engine charging function, but I don't know whether it's better to simply run the battery down and let it recharge a little with the B mode.
