Default Volvo Selekt used car purchase advice

Hi all

I am looking to purchase a used xc90 at a Volvo dealer I have a few options on my radar, Price between 40-45k
Does anyone have any insight into possibility of negotiating a discount on the website advertised price.
Is it an option and if so what discount should I aim for ?

Thanks

Playing the Game I call it. Rule No.1, ask, if you don’t ask you won’t get. There is always a margin that they can sacrifice, but it depends how desperate they are to make a sale, sometimes striking at the right time can produce results, like the end of a month. There are so many variables, are you P/X’ing a vehicle, taking out finance for example. Cost to change is one of the main things to consider, as they can bounce figures around until you don’t know if you are coming or going. I think with nearly new cars it is more difficult to play one dealer against another as you never find two cars with the same spec; and mileage.

Another tack is ask them to throw in some accessories and maybe a service package. Be polite but firm, maybe give them your maximum figure and retire and wait for the phone call, usually they will get back to you if they don’t want to lose a prospective sale. At the end of the day it has to be a compromise which satisfies both parties.

Play the Game.

You could buy the one I p/ex’d at the dealer in Bury last week. Great car. All previous issues resolved and been perfect the last 12 months. Edit:- Ah sorry thought you stated mileage not price. Mine is below your budget.

I don’t have first hand experience of buying selekt cars. But I’m sure I recall another asking the same question on here before - and being told they would be lucky to get £500 off

FWIW I would agree with that; as part of a negotiation over our last-but-one Volvo I was told that there's just a few hundred pounds potential profit for the dealer in Selekt cars.

If you are part-exchanging you could end up with a better deal as there are a number of ways for a dealer to slice and dice the numbers.

I am not in the UK but in Spain I did manage to get 5k off the list price on a 45k car on Select. They told me the price was final and no discount was possible but when I pointed out I have seen cheaper elsewhere and gave them my price target, they drop it immediately.
IMHO, the car was overprice anyway and being a petrol T6 not ease to sell in Spain so I only paid a fair price. Do your research first.

I bought an XC60 D4 2.4 Nav AWD Auto in November. Nicely kitted out, low mileage and what seemed a great price compared to other Selekt models of similar spec.
They wouldn't move on trade-in of my old car.
But, if one doesn't try, one doesn't get! I asked for £1000 off the XC60. Got £500.
I asked again. Got a very reluctant £750.
"Could I please have rubber mats instead of the useless carpet mats?"
"Yes." (ended up with both)
"And a full tank please?"
"Yes."
"Oooh! I forgot it's going to cost me £80 to transfer plate"
"Yes"
AND
Selekt comes with 12 month warranty, MOT guarantee and Breakdown Assistance.
Kerching! Happy days!

Bought a full spec MY20 XC90 T8 (dealer demo). Got 3k EUR off from asking price and a tow hitch added for free.

Feltorange, just out of interest which dealer did you buy from? I'm going to hazard a guess at Clive Brooks. Over the years I've had two cars off them, always managed to get a little bit extra from them. Nice people to deal with.
