Default Where have all the 240s gone?

We drove over 1500 holiday miles in our doggy, but much loved , daily driven 260 last month- and only saw ONE other 200. Admittedly it was stomping along in the approved manner, but where are the rest? Tucked up for shows, or squirreled away in barns waiting for that mythical lucrative "barn find" moment? Waiting for petrol to come down again? Or just scrapped?
You do notice far fewer old cars being used as cars now- sadly, because it deprives the youngsters of any real contact with things from the pre ECU era.

Whilst at a show last Saturday a pair of 340s came in, together with a Caterham 7 so were obviously together. As I walked over (I was in my 164) "dad" leapt out of the C7 and greeted me with "both of my sons had to settle for 1.4 litre engines due their age - they wanted 240s but couldn't". So there is one possible reason.

...on eBay tells you they are being broken up for parts. If you want one in the future you will have to buy it in pieces!

numbers are going down quick anyway in recent years. I know of a few estates here but haven't seen a second saloon yet.

Banger racers are slowly moving on aswell since prices have gone up, they now tend to lean to beemers (good for us).

I wouldn't take the actual numbers too literally as DVLA data is not too accurate. But it does show a significant decline in the"population".

no i wouldn't either, people are getting cars SORN/scrapped and brought back on the road on a daily basis so the systems (and this source) won't be a 100% accurate.

But it shows a rough idea atleast

The breakers here stateside are crushing them on a daily basis. Damn hard finding used parts. But to be fair true of all labels from the 70s, 80s 90s, demand too low to allocate yard room. Russ
