Well, after many years of ownership and 9 240's it was bound to happen at some point
![]() Slap bang in the middle of this morning rush hour on the A322. Apologies for the traffic jam if you were caught in the middle of it. I suspected either a fuse or the fuel pump relay. The fuses looked OK there was no way I was going to fiddle about further with it due to being on the outside lane of the roundabout with bad tempered motoring madness going on around it. I retreated with SWMBO to the grass verge. The good thing is that she had a flask of coffee in her bag and the AA took less than 30 minutes to arrive. The AA guy didnt want to try and getting it going in situ and recovered it to a local BP garage where he had a good look at it. The problem was the fuse box wiring - he fixed it in about 10 minutes. Hoorah! Whilst we were hanging around Mrs V suggested that if I really must insist on driving 20+ year old cars then I really should buy a back up one just in case. I couldnt agree more of course so will start looking for a second car soon. I rather fancy a 960 or S90. Ian

Always need a spare car. At least if you buy somrthing old enough you van whack classic insurance onto it. Be thankful you were driving a car with basic electrics that could be fixed at the side of the road. Try that on a modern.

Ian,
sorry to hear the 240 had a momentary gliche, I bet no-one going past in the hold up would understand and anyway most of em' would need a laptop and a trained graduate to sort their cars out. Embarrassing all the same, a Volvo on a breakdown truck? what ever next.................. 2 Volvo's are always better than one and yes one can go on a Classic policy,£118 for one of mine with RH Services, I now have 2 Wentworth 940's LPT to share the wear and tear and I'm very pleased with both......go for it and good luck. Glad your 240 is fighting fit again and an easy repair.
I have often fancied another Volvo to go with my 1989 240 GLT auto estate to reduce the wear and tear as it's now on 218,000 miles. I fancy a late 940 Estate preferably a CD spec one or one with leather, ABS and aircon and electric windows. What has put me off is it is the cost of running and maintaining 2 vehicles. Was even considering a land cruiser Colorado, but the 940 seems better value and all the toys and probably easier to fit. James ![]() Last edited by volvo always; Dec 2nd, 2015 at 17:22. |

I'm glad you had a safe place and a flask of tea, and that the car was simple to fix.
May I ask, what was the wiring problem please? |

Honestly the lengths some people will go to to get a second Volvo
![]() Don't think my SWMBO would fall for that ruse. Of course the AA man wouldn't try to start it in situ, it hadn't broken down and he was in on it. Even the most devious masterminds make one slip in the masterplan and that was it. 240 breaking down - the very notion. |
