It could only stay new for so long ...
So, thanks to a truck driver, my month old V50 has its first battle scar
While stationary at a set of lights to go straight, the truck came down the left lane which has a filter, swung out and round and the end of his trailer has destroyed my mirror. Gave chase and pulled him over. The guy seems like a decent bloke and admitted fault pretty much straight away. Gave me a cheque for £300 and his address if that wasn't going to be enough. I didn't think it would be but was shocked at the Volvo dealer quote for near enough £500 to supply and fit a replacement! That's the downside of colour coded, folding, heated mirrors with integral indicators. Have since spoken to the driver and he says he'll send me a cheque for the remainder so hopefully he comes through. Glad I wasn't on my motorbike as I often end up sitting on the piece of road where he hit me. I'd be in A&E right now ... |

Still, horrible thing to happen to your car. Could have been worse though, at least it can be fixed. You're head wouldn't be a £500 job :-)

Knew it was going to happen but couldn't move. Had a car on my right waiting to turn and the angle the truck took meant I couldn't move forward. Was waiting for the end of the trailer to come through the window. I guess if it had caught on the A pillar and dragged the car, that'd probably have written it off.
The driver didn't know he'd hit me and to be fair, I've heard of trailers going over cars without the truck driver knowing so a mirror is nothing. By the time he hit me, I'm pretty sure he wouldn't have been able to see the end of his trailer. Still, doesn't excuse him pushing into my lane to take a wider angle for the turn then being surprised that he hit me. |

Most of my lot are turck drivers, brothers, dad, uncles etc etc and my brother has taken out the front of someones car by driving over it. On a roundabout with the car driver not watching where the trailer was going. He tried to slide up the inside of the unit...oops, but nope they don't feel it. I don't know what the outcome was but chances are if a loaded trailer drives over your car, its not going to come out of that alive. Count yourself lucky it wasn't a foreign unit, all you would have got was a fistful of bad language.

All fixed now. Just under £410 so hopefully the first cheque doesn't bounce and I get the remainder. Haven't had a response to the email I sent him ...

The worst thing was the heaters had a mind of their own because the outside temp sensor is in the passenger mirror. Sometimes it was in the -40's and others in the +80's and some it just had ---- plus my engine light came on but had no messages.
