It'll keep going rusty unless you paint the surface!

I've been using Epoxy Mastic on suspension parts, chassis repairs, calipers, etc for a few years now and seems very resilient and long lasting. I've coated the ARB arms on my 911 with it and they're exposed to the elements and were quite rusty beforehand, they still look like the day I painted them now.

£25 for a starter pack, but it goes a long way. I've bought both black and silver in the starter packs about 3 years ago and still have a fair bit left, a little goes a long way.

Not all manufacturers coat the calipers with anything. Some will passivate them, a yellowy/gold finish which offers some protection, which then usually oxidises anyway which in itself offers some protection. I guess the action of your wire brushing it has removed any protection that there was. In your pic see how the bits you haven't got the brush to remain "whited" over.

If your surface prep is good Hammerite can be made to last and is a cheaper alternative. If you do don't go red, black or grey is good. I think red only work if you've got some nice cast ali Brembo type of calipers.

Over use of ali wheel cleaners like Wonder Wheels can strip whatever remains of the coating from the calipers, leaving the cast iron to surface rust.

better brake pads means less brake dust. Usually they get a good coating of black brake dust which then makes them look better.

That rust will brush off. The calipers are made of aluminium. The rust is from your discs and pads.

I painted mine copper metallic so it doesn't look too sporty and has a decent "look".

That is typical after being cleaned with strong alloy wheel cleaner which is an acid . It gets the electroplating off as well as the dirt !.

They are, as I could brush off the rust with ease. A little bit of soapy water was enough to wash it off... The rust isn't from the calipers! Granted!

The only part which is steel and could rust, is the carrier the caliper is bolted to.
