Julian, are you coming to the Bentley meeting? If so I will bring a relay for you to try. Note: J type OD didn't use a relay. Don't know which type you have.
Derek you've solved my puzzle. My overdrive is a J type which explains the lack of relay in the circuit. So no new relay required. Thanks to you, Paul and Russ for your offers of help. I hadn't checked whether I had a D or J type. The car is a 67 and it has the later overdrive badging. Registered late in the year so it was among the first to get a J type overdrive. Yet all the literature suggests 122s did not get overdrive at this point. I'd be surprised if the fitment was not original given the look of things including switch gear and indicator lamp.
May see you at Bentley depending on a pending family commitment.

B18 always came with a D type OD from the factory, if fitted, 122S and 123GT. The B20 Amazon never got an OD officially except on the Swiss market only B20 123GT. Many retro fitted. J type has a different sort of solenoid and this may be the reason that no relay was fitted to the B20 1800 and 140 + 164 models. Nothing to stop one being fitted though.
