Urgent Immobiliser Problem
Hey guys. My Volvo S40 2.0D won't turn over and is stuck away from home.
I get the error message "brake failure" and then when I go to take the keys out it says "immobiliser error". The car will not turn over and there are wierd electrical issues. E.G. the wipers or indicators would not work now they are stuck on. I kept trying to turn the car over and one time it worked but to be sure I turned it off and again it would not work. Any help would be amazing! Thanks guys! |

The fact that the wipers wont turn off means the network system is at fault which can cause a host of other problems too .
Firstly i would disconnect battery , look under glove box there is a white fusebox /CEM unit , take out all the plugs top and bottom , check for loose plugs , displaced wires even dampness in the pins . re assemble and try again .... otherwise it needs to go to the dealer ...

It isnt a fusebox really it is the main computer for the whole car , those multi plugs can be loose when people kick them with their feet or when they do the pollen filter they have to take the unit out , have you had a service recently ? just do what i described above you never know your luck ...

As Clan says, this can cause all sorts of problems.
I had the same symptoms as you minus the wipers and it was solved by removing the CEM and cleaning all the contacts with contact cleaner and re-assembling. That was a year ago and no issues since then (touch wood!). |
