Hi. Are EPB Brake pads diffrent then standard Brake pads?

No difference. The EPB acts against the normal brake pad. There aren't separate EPB pads.

I regard my self as a skilled service mechanics (self teached over 35 years of wrencing on bikes and cars..) and try to save some money on doing maintenance services on brake and oil&filter my self. :-) Forums like this is gold!

After reading the posts it was no big deal changing brake pads on my 2010 XC70. I was concerned how the sealing was between caliper and motor housing but the big o-ring on the flange was only for dust sealing. The winding of the small screw was clockwise using the fine pattern torque tool. It took only 5 min more than congenitally pads. I foun out after that there was instructions included with the new pads... :-|

The reservoir volume of brake fluid is also designed correct as I from time to time now started to get red-light warnings for too little brake fluid, so this is concurrent with the need for new brake pads. (but check this !!)
A little strange that changing rear was necessary first, only after 75.000km. 2.5mm pad left though.

I think you're one of those motorcyclists that are afraid of using the front brake in case it locks.....

We'll I have to say big thank you to the forum and this thread. I have a 2010 v70 R D5, and at the last service the dealer said that the pads would need doing soon. I thought pads yeah I can do those.

Monday they started to scrape so I ordered a genuine set for the front and rear, ( got a really good deal from the main dealer) well it's been 20 yrs since I've done a set of pads normally lazy and ask the garage to do it.
Just to refresh myself I thought I'd take a look at you tube and the forum and found this thread the car had EPB and got scared when I read through the thread, but no need to worry all fitted and feel very satisfied with the end result.

I just wanted to let everybody know that to replace the rear brake pads in the Volvo v70 mk3, the epb tool is not need it at all.
I just replaced the pads myself a couple of weeks ago with genuine Volvo brake pads.
I was about to buy the epb tool because in the Haynes manual was saying that it was need it. But to my surprise when I got the pads from Volvo they came with the instructions how to replace them without any epb tool or similar. I will try to scan them and post them in the next couple of days but I can advance that it was a pretty easy job. Hope this info helps other users and I guess it would be similar for other Volvo models

I have just bought an Autel EST201 and as far as I can gather I need v1.08 software. I can't seem to find it online can you or anybody help please.

Hello mate

All you have to do is install the software it comes with and connect the EST201 to your PC/laptop. Then you browse to the Auteltech.com website. On the top right hand corner click on "United States" and change to "Europe-English"

Once selected it will bring you to the Autel home page. Again on the top right hand menu select "Support & Updates" Then click on ""Previous Generation Products" on the 2nd row, 1st item on the left is "EST201 Update Pack" - Click on that and save the Winrar file to your PC. Then locate the Winrar file and extract the 2 files that are contained in it by double clicking on the Winrar file.

Then you have your Software open select "EPB Service Tools" - locate the files you have just extracted and click on update. You need to do that for all of the menu items. Once done scroll down on the EST201 and you will see Volvo is now included.

Yesterday I changed discs, pads and a wheel bearing on my V70 2008 (3).

I managed to rewind the two pistons simply by unplugging the electrical motor and connecting the two poles with a separate 12v car battery. You will see that the piston start rotating when the spindle has reached the end. Afterwards you can press the piston back as usual.

When activating the handbrake afterwards you can hear that the two motors run som extra time to reach the pads again.

There is no need for the special tool :-)
