05 XC90 D5 MOT Failure
HI,
my 05 XC90 has failed it MOT on Power steering malfunctioning (2.1.5 (a)) what are the possible causes? I have had a 'tight spot' in the steering when traveling at speed above 40mph. However when parking the steering performs smoothly without issue or any heaviness even when at speed it isn't heavy. |

As mentioned above, the vehicle doesn’t leave the ramp. There’s no way they could have replicated an issue you’re experiencing without road testing it, which isn’t part of an mot.

Exactly that. There's absolutely no point in asking anyone here what the issue is, we've not seen the car. Ask the testing station what they saw.

My understanding is that, provided the tester has reasonable grounds for it to be necessary to conduct road testing of a particular aspect, and they consider it safe to do so, then it is permitted. And if conducted, it must pass. In this particular case: "2.1.5. Power steering If power steering is not working, you may have to do a road test to check if the steering is adversely affected. "

You may find that they may have done road test if they used the recommended
Test for parking brake using the Decerlerometer to ensure no damage to drive train being all wheel drive . |

more likely they went out to pick up lunch and discovered this the brake test roller can be used independently or altogether something is amiss here get a second opinion from another tester much cheaper than a new rack.

OP needs to ask the tester what the issue is, then they will know for certain and can decide on a course of action.
