740 FLAME TRAP
Hi,
Does anyone have any suggestions or can point me in the right direction please? My 740 Gl Estate 2 litre injection B200E engine occasionly cuts out. Once this has happened it can be difficult to start. The rev counter normally shows tickover at about 750, but when it dies it seems to miss a beat drop to 500 and and then stop. I've renewed the plug leads today which seem to have had the effect of making it smoother, but my trusty Haynes manual says the flame trap could be the cause. The line diagrams though are not very obvious as far as I'm concerned, hence I'm not sure where the flame trap is located - There is a rubber mounted bit of kit beneath the inlet manifold with a pipe going back to one of the air intake hoses, and also a feed into it, but this has an electrical connection on it which seems to go back to a connection on the block. Is this it or Should I be looking elsewhere? Thanks for any help Nigel |

RE: 740 FLAME TRAP
Under the inlet manifold, three quarters of the way back, black box size of cigarette packet. bolted onto block, also holds down the oilpump drive. One big pipe coming off splits into 1 tiny pipe going to inlet manifold, one pipe going to air intake. comes appart at the split and flame trap is in there like plastic disc or wire. Clean out flame trap and pipes. Would not think that this is your whole problem.
If your slow running is the big plastic knob unscrew and clean this out. Cheers Nigel |
