Default Catalyst value

Anyone tried scrapping a 940 catalyst?

I have 2 to shift with no heat shields. Anyone know what they are worth or what the codes are? All the metal places seem to want codes so they can check the value.

Some random web search say OE codes are 1326481 3517612.

It's due to corronavirus. No metal exports are allowed in or out of China so when the doors get opened they are ready to pay top money.

My MOT tester scrapped two cats off a Vito van for £950. This is why they get stolen so much, steal four and you have more than a months wages in scrap.

I've got two 940 cats to scrap, thanks for reminding me to get on it!

It's the Palladium in petrol ones that are worth the money.

Yeah its interesting, this quote is from a facebook guy, but I know someone who knows him and is vouching for him. I am just imagining.."theres no codes on them could be aftermarket I can give you £50 each".

Hes an hour away so I'll probably have to post but should be <£10 for 2 @ 3.4kg each after chopping the ends off.

Clearway, the official scrappers are offering £130 each.

Local scrappers, who don't really buy cats, offered £60 each.

Cat thefts are a big problem at the moment.

Thieves are targeting Toyota hybrids and honda jazz as well as Lexus and others. I have a Auris Hybrid and have had to fit a cover to try to protect the cat.
Try to make sure to sell your old cats to genuine traders and not supporting the thieves and rogue scrap dealers. Its a big problem. and not enough enforcement.

Strange around 4 years ago fitted an aftermarket exhaust and cat on my 940 and cat cost me £55 on my 2.3LPT I think it was BM make.
Has new cats soared in price? Auris cat from £950, but generally 1200 as cut wire to sensor.

James.

Not so strange really. Cars post-2001 must have "Type Approved" cats fitted and they have higher precious metal content so are worth (and cost!) considerably more in the first place.
The cat you fitted was a glorified silencer with just enough precious metals to function as a cat so was much cheaper.

Things like the Auris must have TA cats and generally they're only available from the original deler or a select few afftermarket manufacurers so they can name their price.

If i had my way, all catalysts would be removed permanently because i'm sure breathing in all the Hydrogen Sulhide gas they produce isn't good for us.

Pretty sure I read somewhere that the powers that be are finally realising that cats aren't the pollution solution they once thought.
